Dothan real estate market – October 2009 Sales report

Overall, September was a good month for the Dothan real estate market. While sales were down when compared to September of last year, the number of homes sold was about the same as August. According to data from the Dothan MLS, there were 84 homes sold in September, down from 97 last year, and 85 last month.
The number of pending sales has been a bright spot for a couple of months now, holding steady at levels well above this time last year. In early October of 2008, there were 127 pending sales in the Dothan MLS, compared to 172 for the same week this year. As you can see from the chart, the number of pending sales is only slightly less than they were during the height of summer, which is typically the best time of the year for home sales.
It will be interesting to see how the next few months play out. November, December, and January are typically the slowest months of the year. With pending sales remaining at a high level, this winter might be a little above average.
